Something I noticed in early Win9x programmes....could still be true
today....it is "set in stone" for them that CD Drive must be D: It makes
sense (to them), as, after all "...you only need one partition..." (sic).

I also think there are exceptions. I hope this helps in some way

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Hi everyone

I've had a few off list replies.
No need to be depressed, it doesnt mention Convenience Packs,
and eComStation is still selling, supported, and available.
This announcement is to do with the core OS/2 Warp v4.0 and
WSeB.

Ian,

This announcement contain the paragraph -

The IBM partnumbers specified in this announcement will be withdrawn from
marketing. IBM will accept orders for these partnumbers no later than
three days
prior to the effective date of withdrawal. Normal marketing activities and
educational support will not be available unless previous agreement exists
between the
customer and IBM. ....

Is that for "IBM Europe Middle East Africa", because I have seen no
marketing of any OS/2 by IBM in Australia for them to withdraw from!

Gave me a chuckle as well, as I assume (maybe incorrectly) than
the marketing elsewhere is probably similar to Australia.

Hi,

This looks odd to me. Are you sure that D: is not the end of the file
systems Windows recognises? My understanding is that both os/2 and
DOS(Windows) treat the IDE drives the same way. Primary partn on
master disk on primary controller gets Disk = C:, then primary partn on
slave drive on primary controller = D; then Primary prtn on master
drive on second controller, then primary partn on slave on second
controller. Then goback over the non primary partns on each drive
exhausting all partn before moving onto the next drive in the same order.
Any partn that has no file system or an unsupported one gets ignored. The
dual boot os2 partn will muck up this order for the first couple as it
hides the currently non-bootable (sort of flip flops whichever is C and
cannot see the other).

More recent versions of windows (XP, 2000 and i'm told NT4.0) allow you to
override this and specify any letter you like (except A,B, and there must
be a C somewhere), I dont know about 98 and ME though.

on this IDE HD windoze will only recognize C and D, both fat, the rest is
either HPFS, JFS or Linux.

BUT, I lost the partition table once on this, perhaps something got screwed
up, I aim to delete all extended partitions, leave the primary, then, re
do the extended partitions from LVM

Hank's IFS-FAT32:

i've installed that, it mounts C: puurfect !, but, it will not let me
access D: FAT32 4.5GB, is there a size limit in IFS FAT32

Under OS/2 you can use the reserve drive letter parameter in
config.sys to force OS/2 to use a later drive letter for CDs (but I
think that's the reverse of what you want). If you're using LVM, I'm
pretty sure you can change letters around as you wish.

Under Windoze (I presume 2000 or XP as no previous version is
supported any more) - go into disk manager to change any drive
letter assigment. You'll recognise disk manager, its a rip-off copy
of LVM written for Microsoft by Veritas.

Cheers/2

Yes, with LVM you can assign any drive letter to any permanent
drive just not two of the same letter obviously.

You can also change the CD letter in Windows under Control Panel,
system, somewere around there of my memory serves. Just as
a lot of IBM desktops use to standardise on G drive for CDROM's.

Or am I thinking of NT, so many, it gets confusing.

Voytek,

Is this by any chance an older IDE system? That is plain IDE rather than
EIDE?

Justa a (rather desperate thought).

Big Blue didn't perform any os/2 marketing anywhere in the World since 1996. It is as
simple as that.
