Hi Nick,

I use Audio/Data CD recorder with CDRECORD/2 all the time, you DO need the correct
ASPI driver and Danis drivers (replacing the IBM ones). Then it all works. Audio/Data
CD Recorder does not have a cd to cd copy function. I have downloaded a rexx program
from HOBBES called CDCOPY that I use, but note, this CANNOT copy boot CDs and there is
also a parameter wrong on the call to MKISOFS line in the code that needs to be simply
removed.

CDRWIZ is supposed to be able to copy CDs but I've never been able to get CDRWIZ to
work correctly (other have however). Be careful when downloading CDRWIZ, for some
reason the download won't work using NS 461. I use Mozilla or Opera.

The problem you had with CD's not being usable could be the make of the CD media as
well. I have had this problem a couple of times. I find my Ricoh CDBurner works fine
with "cheap and cheerful" no-name CDR blanks but TDK and other expensive CD simply
don't write correctly !

Good luck with setting everything up, drop a line on the list if you have any problems.

Cheers/2

Ed.

I've converted from CDRWIZ to Chris Wohlgemuth's Audio/Data-CD-Creator
v0.51 this does have a CD to CD copy function, not sure about copying boot
but its an excellent WPS based/intergrated system.

http://www.os2world dot com/cdwriting/

These are folder classes for the WPS which work as frontends
for cdrecord/2, cdrdao/2 for creating of Audio- and Data-CDs.
Just put files/folders or shadows of files/folders into the Creator-folder
and press 'write'. Full WPS aware. MP3 writing and decoding support.

Prerequsites: -Warp 3 or 4 -EMX runtime libraries 0.9d fix3
 -CDRecord/2, mkisofs, textmode grabber; optionally: cdrdao/2, z!

You should be able to download cdrwiz from OS/2 Site, as I've setup
Apache to recognise WPI (and RAR) files as binary downloadable
files, which is why it fails from Roccos website unless you use some
thing like WGet.

http://www.os2site dot com/sw/mmedia/cdr/index.html
Also find Chris's CDR program there as well.

Very strange.
I have no problems writing to any of them but I like to ensure that
I will be able to read them 10 years from now at least. Emtec, and
other cheap brands have helped me create a few coasters but
TDK, Yamaha (Toa), Verbatim, and Sony have all been 100%
unless I've done something really stupid.

Hi Gavin,
How about I borrow a few current ATAPI models from work & give them a
bash?

The Liteon have had excellent reviews, but I don't know if they work
with CDRECORD/2.

For CD->CD copying use CDRECORD with CD-Creator as a front-end &
Tonigy.

Tonigy, an installable file system, makes CDs appear as an ISO image on
a virtual drive letter & CDRECORD works with ISO CD images.

So mount a Tonigy drive, tell CDRECORD/2 where the ISO is & burn:- I
can burn from a quad CD-ROM to my quad CD-RW on-the-fly no worries.

O.K. its an all SCSI P133 IBM 310 Server...

Aha, obviously a recent addition. I don't have it on v 0.43 that I'm running. I have 0.52
and will install and test the function. Even 0.43 had support to create Boot CDs but
didn't have (as far as I could find) a data CD to data CD copy function.

is there any good windoze ml any one can suggest, for asking windoze Qs ?

and, I need to come up to speed on some windoze utes and tools, I haven't
really used windoze utilities and tools since '92 and win 3.1x days:

what tools can anyone recommend for troubleshooting/fixing/optimizing
windoze ?

preferably, something that can be run from command line with a '/do-all' and
'/log-it' switches

Norton Utes ?
System Mechanic ?

what's a good choice of virus scanner ?

what other stuff do I need for a windoze tool kit ?

(don't fret, I am only doing this for the money, and, I pretned i enjoy
it, I still use, and, will keep using OS/2, for a long time yet)

that sounds almost as good, and, perhaps better, than the long since defunct
Unite CD Maker.

CD Maker consisted of two templates (audo, data), one burner object. that's
all, no application, just templates and burner object (and, some WPS
classes....) you peeled of a template, d'n'd files (shadows, no physical
transfer); then, d'n'd created object onto the burner object.

I'll need to try this.

I bought Unite-CD some time ago and quite honestly, CDRECORD/2 with Audio-CD creator is (IMHO)
a better or at least simpler to use, product, with the added advantage that it's free.

Depends on the "flavor" of Windoze. W2K Server has quite a good set of performance and
problem tracing tools built-in. As for Virus scanning - all the big names seem to work
together, so there's probably not a lot between them. Most people go for Symantec
(Norton) or Network Associates (McAfee). the latter has a very good monitoring and
control console, if you're running a large W2k network, it's a god send !

Hi All,

Thanx to all for the advice. I've found a Sony CDR/RW ATAPI (can't remember the
exact model number) so I may buy that. I've downloaded the latest versions of
CDRecord/2 and Audio/data WPS classes (as well as all the bells and whistles that
are needed to work) I expect the Sony is MMC-3 complient.

One more thing, there are two different CDRecord/2 binaries, make sure
you get the CDRecord from the same page as Audio/data WPS, I
got caught with this :-)

Not a bumper sticker, but a couple years ago at Warpstock I made up little
case stickers with a swirly blue background and:

"My Computer
    My Choice
     Running
    OS/2Warp"

These fit right over those "designed for windoze" stickers on cases and
keyboards.

you're perhaps right, then again, Unite CD Maker was developed, and, stopped developed, maybe 5 years ago, or more

at the time, there was no other OS/2 solutions, period.

except Gear/2, which, wasn't comparable, anyhow.

in terms of user interface/ wps implementation, CD Maker wouyld be hard to better.
