Hi All,

Does anyone have an ISP that cares about spam ?
I've been told by mine there's nothing they can do and just ignore it !
Which wasn't the answer I was looking for.
I'm thinking of looking for a new ISP.

Thanks
Glenn.

Glenn,
Hi I can't say for certain but give InterNode a try.
They provide KDF's ADSL link and the service
is very good.
Graham is using them as well.

Sounds good, I'll look them up.
I think I read in the paper once internode also don't
use ANY m$ junkware in their business. They sound
doubly good !

I've heard of that, if the rate of spam increases it might be worth a look
as well as a new ISP.

Thanks
Graham.

Believe it or not, Telstra are very active in blocking SPAM.

You need to differentiate between SPAM, where someone simply gets into an
ISP and broadcasts somehow through their mail servers and unwanted mail,
where either you unknowingly have given your email to a company who has then
sold it on to a marketting company - this is not SPAM and perfectly legal as
long as the original company gives you a way of marking your entry to say
you don't want your email address passing on. The default is they can and
often the button to turn it off is small and often at the bottom of a form,
off screen. the moral, as has always been is "read the small print" before
giving anyone your details.

Hi. FWIW.
I have found that star office 5.1 does a better job of M$ stuff than
smartsuite. Smartsuite gets to the point at times of saying "I don't
understand this format" but it still opens fine in M$ and SO.

Star Office 5.1 has had a better job of translating M$ Office 2000 word files for me than
M$ Office 2000 at work. It's not perfect, but when it doesn't load a word doc, it doesn't
give you false hope, then load pages of boxes where the text used to be; like M$ Office
does. Star Office CAN open Powerpoint files, but it's not as stable as it's word
conversions. Star Impress I've found a bit unstable anyway.

Unfortunately Sun have dropped the OS/2 version of Star Office. Yhere will
be no V6 for OS/2. Lotus on the other hand have just released V1.7 of
Smartsuite for Warp 4 and V1.8 is slated for release later this year.

I also prefer Star Office over Smartsuite by the way.

Hi Glen,

I'm also with Internode and do not get ANY spam - wish I could say the same at work,
whoever their ISP is.

The MD of Internode, Simon Hackett, is also a fellow glider pilot.
