Had a bit of a play around and found this:

Some pdf files opened perfectly through MIME, while the most recent ones I've
received invoked the win-os/2 error, but opened in acrobat manually, or by drag'n drop.

I'm using Acrobat 3 for OS/2. Does anyone know if newer version pdf files (those
created in the latest Win version) saved in Windows have a header pointing to the Win
version of acrobat to account for this behaviour?

Cheers

I still need help with my sound card, I feel a fool!

Brought an Eagle PCI card CM 8738 chip and there are drivers around.... it
seemed that this was a 'standard' ...

looked at BIOS and turned off the Onboard Sound option and turned on the
"Legacy Sound" option which then gave me an option to set up the IRQ etc ,,,, and
set this to IRQ 5....

installed the driver and then it seems OK and in the Hardware properties it appears
with the correct IRQ and no apparent conflicts...

now I can play the love making 'macaws' video and it appears in all its coloured
glory and with the sound loud and clear, BUT...

I can't hear or play MIDI or WAV files and even the system sounds are as silent as
a monastery!

The Midi program runs and I can click on the play button.... no sound.

whilst the WAV files seems to momentarily load the player program and then it
instanteously disappears as fast as it looked like loading....

frustrating....!!! any suggestions? a clean install?

Graham,
BIOS settings for onboard sound should be OFF if you want to use an addon card....

This is probably causing your problems due to clashing interupts or something
between the onboard sound and the addon card..

Paul.

turned off everything that relates to sound in the BIOS and the problem persists! So

Did you also install the small cable from the M/B socket to the socket
on the Card for legacy sound ?

This little cable doesnt always come with the card as its assumed
that you would have no reason to use this, as the only
operating system in the world is Windows, so why would you
possibly want to use legacy mode with low interrupts ?

The other option, turn OFF legacy mode and see what
happens.

Unless you are adept at manually modifying mmos2.ini, it is
also advisable to completely DELETE MMOS2, install the
sound card, then RE-install MMOS2.

well this is a new one and there was no 'little cable' that came with the sound card!

I have turned off the all the BIOS settings including the legacy settings so that there
is no mention of sound in the BIOS and I still only hear sound with the Macaws and
nothing else.. shall uninstall the MM aspect and try again!

I don't think there is anything wrong with your install.

I don't think the SB Live or CMedia 8738 support hardware midi. You need
the Timidity program

You might want to consider downloading the Java version of Acrobat Reader. I
believe it's compatible with Version 5 of the windows Acrobat reader. I have
downloaded it but not got around to trying it out.

Unfortunately some of the CMEDIA audio chip OS/2 drivers only work with WAV
not Midi - the readme should tell you if this is the case.

By the way have you tried the drivers from the CD-Rom that I sent you are
have you downloaded from somewhere ??

I thought the little cable was to allow speaker out to come through the card
instead of the internal speakers, or sometimes to connect the CD-Rom audio
output to the card. I don't think it's relevant in Graham's case. Sounds
more like a driver problem to me.

don't think it's a driver is it ? Does it convert midi to WAV ?

TiMidity MCD for OS/2

Page updated December 11th, 2001.

About TiMidity MCD

TiMidity plays MIDI and Module (.MOD) files. It does it in software
without depending on any hardware MIDI support your soundcard might
have. Sound quaility can be much higher because it limited by your CPU's
power and memory rather then your soundcard's power and memory.

TiMidity usally comes as a stand alone player. TiMidity MCD is a special
version that installs at part of OS/2 Multimedia system so that most
applications that played MIDI files through your soundcard before, now
can play MIDIs through TiMidity at a higher quality. This includes the
Multimedia Workplace Shell objects and the Plug-in pack for Netscape.

Hi all

have done delete MM and re install and it seems now to work except for

MIDI
and this issue seems to be covered in thread, although the readme file for the latest
version of the drivers 0.1.8 (beta) suggest 'support for MIDI - OPL 3 FM
Synthesis" so does this require a different driver??

Microphone... does not work but this may reflect the high quality low output mic that I
use....

Hi Graham

(ive updated this email, as its been sitting here in the background
since this morning...)

>well this is a new one and there was no 'little cable' that came with the sound card!

Its becoming "normal" for no cable unfortunetly.

The cable is for "legacy" IRQ and ADDR ports, it is for PCI
audio cards only, and enables you to play those "old" games
and use those old audio applications. Its a toss up really as to its
need and really depends on the software you are using.

>I have turned off the all the BIOS settings including the legacy settings so that there
>is no mention of sound in the BIOS and I still only hear sound with the Macaws and
>nothing else.. shall uninstall the MM aspect and try again!

Its a pain though but reading your description, this should at least
fix your wave problem. Some drivers around for a particular card
may also only support WAVE, and not MIDI.

Another bit that sometimes catches people out, turn the MIDI
volume up.

And as Glen has pointed out, get the Timidity drivers and give those
a go. I've stuck to by tried and true but nolonger available
AWE32 and AWE64 cards. The yamaha cards not bad either.

reading your last email, its possible there maybe another step
to getting MIDI to work but without being there, and reading
the driver doc's, could be a bit dangerous for my to say
anything and put your wave at risk. Have a go at installing
Timidity though.

Cheers

You need a batchfile "AdobeAcrobatViewer.cmd" to have it started, the batchfile must be
exactly in this directory:

\Java11\AdobeAcrobatViewer\

and the other files in the appropriate directories too and then it might work. Works here,
but it's slow as hell.

Why not just use Russel Lang's GSview? The install is a bit complicated too, but at least in
the end it works properly (and much quicker than any Acrobatic counterpart).
