This is a new barebones system from Shuttle. I have not tested them but
the specs look pretty good.

http://www.shuttleonline dot com/spec.php3?model=ss40 uses AMD Athlon
LAN - Realtek, Sound - CMEDIA CM8738, video - SIS 315 check with Scitech

http://www.shuttleonline dot com/spec.php3?model=ss55 Uses Intel P4
LAN - Realtek, Sound - CMEDIA CM8738, video - SIS 650 check with Scitech

This is a all in one mother boardf I have tested

Soyo SY-K7 (AMD Athlon) Dragon
LAN - Realtek, Sound - CMEDIA CM8738, video - use Scitech

In general motherboards fgor these items

For LAN look for -
Realtek 8139 or 8100B (rtsnd.os2)
Intel Ether 10/100 PCI (e100b.os2)

For sound try to get something supported by an open source driver -
SoundBlaster Live
CMedia CM 8738

For Video - get a chipset supported by Scitech

no probs, Ed

Although, if IRC means some sort of internet realtime conference,
I won't be able to take part,

My end+home-user perspective means I'm using CIM-OS2 to
receive my emails
( Telecom, computer hardware problems, and ISP rollover-their-customers
software changes mean that I use the local library to reliably
  access the internet ).

Why a floppy? It's much faster and more convenient from a temp directory
on your hard drive. I have a series of dirs on the same drive as my
"DNLOAD" dir called Z
            ZZ
            ZZZ
ZZZZ and so on. I can unzip stuff into these and if I
wish install them from there.

BTW, I use Z because - a. it's the easiest key to hit in a hurry
                     - b. it keeps them right at the bottom of any
directory
tree, hence easy to find and get to. A friend
of mine does the same thing using "1"(one).

someone point me at a free IRC client which also has clear (to a complete

There are some links on OS/2 IRC clients at
http://www.os2voice dot org/meetinginfo.html as well as an article on "Getting
started on IRC" by Wayne Swanson. There are even web interfaces for many
IRC networks so you can connect using any java enabled browser. VOICE
uses WEBBnet, but there are many other IRC networks that can be used as
well (like Undernet, EFnet, DALnet and others).

Subject: [os2genau] WatchStocks and some eCS tools

For those of you looking to continuously query stock quotes, analyze
the data and be
informed about rapid movements in price there has not been much on offer
for eCS.
However a Norwegian Java program in English is available called
WatchStocks which
runs excellently in eCS and is being maintained by the author. It uses
internet sites for
source material, for example Yahoo, so it is 15mins behind real time
figures. The site is
      http://www.norrsken-data-teknik dot com
I mention this here because I have not seen it covered anywhere....but
that does
not mean it has been thoroughly discussed somewhere :-) . The program
does not
do telex. It is ,however, much more than a ticker program.
Some eCS tools the author has written are also available at the site.

Mesa has been doing that for a long time, with live feeds,
there is also stockmarket app from seth (includes a REXX DLL), and, of
course, Surf'n'REXX

though, I do not know how they compare to what you suggested

Hi2All,

I have created and intend to maintain an uptodate bookmark file, which can be

either referenced using your browser, or downloaded and used within your
browsers bookmark mechanism.

There is a simple readme outlining what I am attempting

http://www3.sympatico.ca/brittonm/1st_readme.txt

First I have a complete bookmark file containing the current URL's that I am
aware of

http://www3.sympatico.ca/brittonm/all_bm_current.html

This file is really intended for new OS/2|eCs users, or those returning to
OS/2 after a period elsewhere, anyway for new installations. The aim is to
provide an os2centric starting point with the bookmarks, and the file can be
used with Netscape or Mozilla

It can be accessed over a browser, but it isn't really pretty, eventually I
will create a home page to deal with this. It is primarily intended to be the

users bookmarks file, that can be modified by the user to suite their needs,
so I am not keen to trim too much, that should be the users choice.

Secondly I have a file that is designed to be imported into existing
bookmarks, which contains the revisions to URL's since the main bookmark file

was distributed, so new links, and changed links can be added simply to
existing bookmarks. Naturally the 'all' file can also be imported, but then
the user needs to spend an inordinate amount of time trimming.

http://www3.sympatico.ca/brittonm/new_bm_current.html

I have put together simple readme's to describe how to proceed with the
integration of the bookmark file into the browser

http://www3.sympatico.ca/brittonm/mozilla.txt
http://www3.sympatico.ca/brittonm/netscape.txt

I will maintain an archive based upon all_bm_mmyy.html and new_bm_mmyy.html,
so that users can have the access to earlier distributions. The
all_bm_current.html and new_bm_current.html will be dynamic, but at the end
of
each month new archives will be provided

http://www3.sympatico.ca/brittonm/all_bm_0402.html for April.

Naturally I am hoping that the user community will participate by pointing
out
changed links, suggesting new links, and generally helping to refine the
resource.

This first release is far from perfect, suffering greatly from my own
personal
ideas, so I am really hoping users will put me right...

Also, I would be delighted if I could incorprate more international links,
European, Asian, SEAsia, as the current is far too NA orientated....

Thanks for reading this, and I hope to hear from you...

regards,

Subject: Re: [os2genau] Sound Cards

HI Paul

sorry to appear such a fool but unzipping the archive does not appear to create an
executable install file...? I presume you mean that I open an os2 prompt and drill
down to the temp directory and type install? If I type install at the c prompt of
course I run the OS2 Install programme?

I can install the driver 88 Kb size by running the install MM device and it all seems
OK yet no sound and no desktop sound system....
