Yes it appears all browsers come as 128 bit now, where they used to be only 40 bit
- I guess the US have lifted the restrictions ? So is mozilla/warzilla also 128 bit ?

Cheers/2

It looks as though the REXX procedure isn't handling your video driver at all
well. One approach would be to use the minimal VGA driver during the eCS
installation and then install the correct driver (SCITECH DD ?) manually after
the installation completes.
Otherwise it seems your installation process should be OK. Have you talked to
Orion to check for known issues / solutions ?

Subject: [os2genau] Boot to Command Prompt ( custom )

Does anybody remember how to set up a customised boot
to Command Prompt?

I've gone through the old Warp Hint & Tips databases,
and I have a slightly customised version of my CONFIG.SYS,
using PMSHELL=3DCMD.EXE,
which is now being displayed as a selection in the ALT+F1 menu
( and which does boot to a command prompt ).

HOWEVER, my command shell doesn't let me reboot cleanly
( ie CTRL-ALT-DEL, or typing EXIT, at the Command prompt,
does not result in a clean shutdown,
as it does from the standard boot to Command Prompt
we all get with OS2 )

Which means the next boot includes an auto CHKDSK,
which nearly defeats the purpose of running my
custom command prompt environment.

Chris Neeson.

Hi Chris,
Why don't you have a maintenance partition & use BootOS2?

My Standard Operating Environment, (SOE) consists of:
C: D: E: F:
Normal Boot Maint Boot Your Apps
OS OS Data
               TEMP
               Spooler
               Swapper

You can quickly boot to the maintenance partition & ZIP up a partition,
burn it to a CDR & have many snapshots of a working system.

Of course you need to document & test how you created each install :)

Not so much the US lifting the restrictions, as they can only be downloaded
from "certain" countries, ie, IP restrictions. IBM's SWC also enables tighter
control. These products are all available in other countries anyway so the
whole exercise is really one of red tape, more than reality.

Export restrictions still apply for a lot of encryption/decryption technology
from the USA but if its compiled and put on the WEB outside the USA,
thats completely legal, High encryption Netscape is allowed to be exported
to Australia and other 'friendly' countries.

And yes, mozilla/warpzilla also has 128bit support. :-)

Hi Chris,

I use a small utility called Shutup.exe which sits in the root
directory of my boot drives.

Simply type shutup and press enter. The file system will be closed
down properly. It even works while at a command prompt with
the WPS in the background, making handy for those times when you
cannot shutdown due to a unkillable netscape zombie running etc.

If you have got one of my fixpack CD's it will be on it somewhere.

I THINK I may have gotten it from Hobbes or Leo. I have been
using it for years, possibly from os/2 v2.11 days even.

Subject: [os2genau] OS/2 and GPS's

G'day All,

A few weeks ago I reported a problem with a win16 GPS proggie not able
to access the com port at FP 14 and 15 levels.

Not having been able to resolve that problem I have gone back to FP10
and everything works fine.

Steve Clark suggested trying Odin with the OziExplorer software. Have
tried that but demo version from the OziExplorer website crashes during
program setup with a "WinExec failed return = 2" error. Perhaps Steve
could elaborate on any useful details of how or which version of
OziExplorer he got to work through Odin.

Thanks,
