Hmm, all of a sudden, someone is yelling "OS/2 is dead - again!" -
again!

[all innocent] Now I wonder if this might happen to be associated
with a new release of a Microsoft "operating system"???

MS wouldn't do that would they? They are a part of the wonderful free
enterrprise American system which is the envy of all the world...

<G>

It is significant that two of the major Australian corporate accounts
which MS "won" to NT a few years ago (Telstra our phone monopolist
and the Commonwealth Bank) have not said a lot about XP. I happen to
have heard a little birdie tell me that the bank dropped 8-digit sums
trying to get NT to catch up to the (partially completed) stage
reached by the original OS/2 project, could NOT match function points
achieved, nor could the developers dream of attaining the planned
functions.

The bank's decision-maker who mounted the case for NT no longer works
there. Neither does NT, but IBM has politely agreed not to use any
information about the failures in any way.

I wonder what kind of WTC-type [shudder!] disaster it would take to
wake up IBM Corporate to the need for careful use of similar tactics
to MS, to regain some lost ground? Maybe the AS-400 team could teach
the OS/2 team a few lessons in savvy marketing?
