The file omni.lst is a part of the file omni.exe which is available here:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm dot com/ps/products/os2/printpak/

And the latest print01.sys with PCI support is available at the regular DD drivers
site.

A bit surprising, as this HP type is on the market for almost 2 years here.

Hi Wendy,
Unfortunately, the 680 uses different cartridges to just about ALL
other models. I think this is because it's a 2880 DPI printer - the
prints
at this resolution on glossy paper really ARE photo quality !

As I said - $54 for the replacment black cartridge. We'll see if they
are any cheaper at the computer fair on Sunday.

Hello everyone!

A short note to tell you some good news and some bad news!

I have had an email from Mark Rogers to say that
a) he has GA code as of now (hooray!!)

b) but it will take a while to burn the CDs so can we defer the
install fest by one week to the 23rd (boo! but with a<g>)

I have asked the MelbPC office if the 23rd is still OK and am
awaiting their confirmation<sigh>.

Please plan for the 23rd if you can (it's actually good news for me
- I can be there!) and I will confirm as soon as I know from the

Hi All,
Samba is much better & secure than NFS.
Also file-locking is much better.

If a Windoze box will talk to it using SMB technology, so should an OS/2
box running LAN Requester or PEER.
Note of course, you must be running TCPBEUI network protocol:- no big
deal.

I'm not sure if the Linux Samba team have duplicated the function of a
Primary Domain Controller yet:- but it is close.

I am much more comfortable making a Warp Server box run than a Samba,
but that it not to say it is inferior.

OS/2 might be Queen on the Desktop & WS4eB is an excellent server OS,
but so is Linux running Samba.

Most people do , as anyone that buys a computer through legal channels has
already got Windows due to the OEM contract Microsoft forces resellers, distributors,
and manufacturers to sign.

I think the pivotal issue leads back to two matters.

1) It is illegal to say you need Product A before you can have Product B,
ie, you can legally buy car parts, though you don't own the car they
are, or could be, a part of. Some American states have some strange
ideas of "freedom", and Interpretation. A bit like the Family Law
Court is in theory "Federal" but in reality, Western Australias
"interpretation" of these laws leave a lot to be desired.
Even if it was legal, the license is only enforcable in select countries.

(any weapons owners here, will know this doesn't apply to them
depending on what state they are in)

I believe that parts of the Microsoft license are NOT enforcable
in Australia, as local laws overrule select parts anyway.

2) Odin was built by discovering API's and other interfaces, then ODIN
was slowly built to be able to use these API's, this way ODIN is not
    breaking any laws.

But Microsoft wants to remove the people, and perceived loss
of sales, by rewording their licenses to give the impression that
people are breaking the law, when in reality they are not.

Just heard back from the Linux Guys.

Have a look at the OS2_client.txt file in the textdocs directory of

It can replace a PDC & a BDC is on the way!

There is even a samba client for OS/2!
However, don't know how well it is integrated into the WPS.

I can help you out with this, or Daryl maybe able to as well.

It's better with pictures,if I can find some, I'll email you these
privately in about 45 minutes after my dinner :-)

First though, make sure you have the correct replacement
heatsink arrangement, I have on one occasion ordered some
fridge coolers and got the ones for the early PII's, which dont
fit PIII's no matter what you do.

The secret is in the 4 recessed holes on the back of the CPU,
these are secured using plastic barbs, which if you have an
appropriatly sized metal PCB standoff, you can sqeeze the small
metal tube over these and then jimmy off with a small flat blade
screw driver.

Failing that, cut off the excess with some small snips, or cautiously
with a sharp knife as close to the base of the barbs, then use the
tip of a soldering iron to melt the rest while appling light force
so it slips through the securing hole, one at a time.

>I want to add a more grunty cooler to my PIII/550 so I can try
>overbussing it higher than the 645 it is running at the moment.

If you are over bussing it by 30% and it works, I wouldnt attempt
going any higher, best long term stability is about 20%.

Be warned, a lot of CPU fridge units have cheap fans that
can fail after 12 months of use, resulting in the dialectric
exploding, and possibly damaging the M/B, and/or CPU.

I like IBM's way of not using CPU fans but bloody big
heatsinks, with a standard 5 or 7cm bearing fan on the case
blowing air through the heatsink fins.

My main Netfinity here also has a fan infront of the
main HD bays, so the unit has a total of 4 fans :-)
