Hi Steve, Michael,

Internet Banking is a Nightmare in Australia!

The technology is mature enough, just project managers for the Internet
Banking departments are immature.

I've had 1st-hand experience of it when I was in the US:- & overseas
Americans quite happily check their accounts whilst here in Australia,
I've watched them on my P133mmx Toshiba Laptop running OS/2.

Australia is 2-3 years behind the US, not because we don't have the
technology, just the thinking of the Internet Departments is 2-3 behind
the rest of the world.

Change control, advance notice of "upgrades", extensive beta-testing
programs, standards compliance, all mean better service & less problems.

I use NS4.61 000818

JAVA.EXE full version "JDK 1.1.8 IBM build o118-20010114
(JIT enabled: javax V3.5-IBMJDK1.1-20010114)"

For those interested I have found a very good offer at Strathfield's
(Car accessories and HI-FI / computers) of a Canon FB620S SCSI attached
flatbed scanner including an Adaptec AVA-2904E PCI SCSI card and scsi
external cable all for $99.

"For your local store - call 13 11 77"

Cheers

Another additional point to the text below - the AVA-2904E card uses the
same drivers as the AIC-7850, which is supported "out of the box" by
OS/2 Warp 4.

I remain very happy with my ANZ internet banking solution. Accessible from
any platform and any browser that I use.

Since I thought ANZ was the "Australia and New Zealand Bank", I'd have
thought their site would be accessible for NZ accounts as well ???

Thanks for the tip Ed. I called Strathfield at Modbury (Adelaide) and they too have this
scanner. Anyone know which OS/2 applications support this scanner? I presume that
Sane at least does?

Regards,

Paul.

They may have changed their ways, When I approached the Yes bank they
were the "you gotta be joking bank". There was a 60 meg install required and only on a win box.
I know I can use ANZ in Aust. ok but havn't re-appraised NZ.

I know USA and Germany have very mature internet banking systems.
Mature, considered management. Wish they would settle down here.
Wait untill more people have PDA's than PC's and want to bank with them.

I honestly can't see why they don't use ssh clients, run on anything and run the application at the
bank. May not be as flashy but its got to be reliable and secure.

Ed,
You sure about the above? I don't see OS/2 drivers for the AVA-2904 listed at either
the OS/2 Device Driver Site or the Adaptec site
(http://www.adaptec dot com/worldwide/support/techspecs.html?prodkey=AVA-2904&cat=
%2fProduct%2fAVA-2904).

Paul.

I'm hoping sane/2 does. I've just got it home tonight, so I'll let all
know asap.
I've got sane/2 installed from trying to get my parallel port scanner to
work with it.

I know where Modbury is by the way - I lived and worked in Adelaide for
5 years.

Go to the DDPack online IBM public site - DISK and SCSI adapters,
Adaptec, AIC-7850/7855 option. Note we've changed from AVA
which defines the card to AIC which defines the chipset.

Sadly, Ed our banks have to live within borders, and money doesn't flow across the Tasman very easily (despite free trade agreements).

I have the same trouble - I bank here with a credit union which is linked to NAB, and I have an account at the BNZ in New Zealand. The NAB
fully owns the BNZ BUT I still have to do TTs and so forth as if they didn't know each other.
