This sounds like the *Ideal* reason to install JFS.

Chkdsk on JFS partition unlike HPFS, does not go through every
byte on the drive. It checks a transaction log (similar to what
database engines do), at start-up to see if the drive is up-to-date.
If there are still entries in it's database log (because an unexpected
restart has occurred), it simply re-applies the changes that were
missed. This takes down the time needed to chkdsk a drive
dramatically when compared to HPFS or FAT.

JFS is available with Warp server for e-Business or e-Comstation
and has been released into the open source community (mainly
for Linux users)so you may be able to find a free OS/2 port of it.

Note: You cn't use JFS yet as your system partition but since you
appear to have several large data partitions, it would seem the
ideal choice.

Does anyone on this list use an Epson Stylus Colour 680 ??

If so how well does it work with the drivers from the On-line
DD-pack site ??

This printer is supposed to print at 2880 x 720 DPI.

What is better for photo printing, 2880x720 or 2400 x 1200 ?

The Lexmark Z42 prints at 2400 x 1200, but there are
presently no OS/2 drivers for it.

Thanks for any coments on the merits / problems of Epson
Vs Lexmark under OS/2.

Well, I'm going to answer my own earlier question. I can say that
the Epson 680 works perfectly under OS/2 Warp 4 ! The driver
supports the same features as the manufacturer supplied ones
for Windoze. (IBM have written and support the OS/2 driver).

For AUS$ 299 (Cheaper if you shop around), this seems to be
a good buy if you want high quality (2880 DPI) photographic
printer under OS/2 on a home office type budget.

Great news Ed,
Well-written driver support for colour printers is critical.
This ListServ is a great place for people to find out about
OS/2-friendly hardware, BEFORE they buy it.

I've cobbled together printers onto OS/2 networks with disappointing
results purely because the OS/2 drivers were woeful compared to the
Windoze ones.

BTW, bit of big night, & a late start today, CU at your place for cake
about 16:00!

using a USB connection? If so with what motherboard chipset
and which USB drivers (SWC or 'free' USB support)?

NO ... Parallel port. In principle though if you have a
supported USB chipset, the same driver should work
as all that is changing is the port that you are using.

Hi Mark

You can set config.sys to check only those 4 drives. To check the rest,
write a simple batch file eg.

chkdsk F:\
chkdsk G:\
exit

check the above is correct.
