Graham,

Another one -

Credit Union Australia's new Telebanker system works OK with Netscape
4.6.1, too. It's a Java app and takes some time to load up over a
dial-up, but works acceptably from there with no glitches

Peter

I thought that Active -X was some form of software (MS) that was needed to run

(I)diots (E)xplorer uses Active-X in place of plugins or Java code - ie to
execute a small program on your system through the browser.

I think you are refering to video extentions to windows when you refer
to games - I think this indeed is called something X aswell but the name escapes
me at the moment - I think it was in competion with Open-GL at one stage
but thankfully more and more games are using Open-GL now.

Graham, it could all be a flight of fancy, but as I understand
Active-X it is a form of "programming component" trying to emulate
the object-orientation we know and love in OS/2 but without the
programming ability to achieve the object-ive<g>

Its better to install the IBM Browser then JAVA 1.3 as the installation will prompt to
set up the Browser for Java 1.3. If done the other way round it requires fiddling -
something beyond mere mortals like me!!! I have used the installer for Warpzilla
and suspect that it would do the same for the IBM flavour!!

As to Telstra. is there any point in complaining if it is using this dreaded Active X
MS beast?

I believe it is the same for IBM Browser, or Warpzilla, you just need to put
this DLL in the plugins directory so that the IBM Browser, or Warpzilla then
recognises it, IBM do not support this though, apparently (third hand info here)

I must confess to not having read the manual/readme, and unlikely to until
xmas :-)

Many thanks Ian.

README says:

"This tool will enable IBM Java 1.3 Plug-in to function on Warpzilla.

Syntax : ENABLER <Warpzilla Base-Path directory>

******************************************************************

How to do this ?
There are two possible cases :

1) You've just installed IBM Web-browser + java 1.3 plugin
and IBM Java 1.3 Runtime on your system

Solution : Copy "npoji6.dll" from "plugin" directory of your
IBM WebBrowser into "plugin" directory of your Warpzilla
Then run "enabler.exe" with the path of your Warpzilla
base
           directory ."

**** This was the nearest description to my circumstances, but I
could not find any such DLL anywhere in my system... :(

I did part 2 only with g:\mozraw\bin to point to my base directory
because using G:\mozraw didn't find Warpzilla.

It reported "DONE! You should now be able to use Java plugins!"

However, I see no change in my IBM Browser Java capabilities...

"2) You've only installed IBM Java 1.3 (R5 minimum) on your system.

Solution : Run "enabler.exe" with the path of your Warpzilla base
           directory .
Click on "mzplugin.exe" on "ns" directory of your IBM Java
1.3.
           Click on "insmzplg.cmd" . "

**** I could not do this because the program didn't give me anything
to read...

Am I missing the Java 1.3 Plug-In entirely??

Hi John

All I've done is to copy npjava.dll from my Netscape v4.6 plugins
directory, to my mozilla (IBM Browser) plugins directory, this file
is the JAVA v2 plugin file which I assume JAVA v2 (1.3) installed
for me, the help-plugins menu tells me its JAVA 1.3. Then I started
IBM Browser, checked out some JAVA sites, works well, must
comment here, its at#$% fast !

I think the readme files need some editing re order of installation.

Java 1.18 is faster on a "low-spec" (ie < 400MHz) machine
