Ed,
   I'm in Melbourne.

I went through the list from the time you were getting
things set up, firstly at Newington I think. I could not
find a how-to. Sorry about that...it must be under
some subject heading I've overlooked, but I did go
through all the ADSL stuff and earlier posts
specifically on Telstra. Hence, I would really
appreciate it if you could put it together again Ed.
My email address is:

Just copy old postings to save your time.

With thanks,

Michael Peters

Check for IRQ usage. If this is Warp 4 the default is NOT to use IRQ 7 or 5
for the printer, however if this is Warp 3 or the /IRQ switch has been added
to print01.sys in config.sys, the OS will use IRQ7 for LPT1 and IRQ5 for
LPT2. While you're checking this check what IO address is assigned.
Although 378 is normal (and what I would always set LPT1 to), 3BC (I think)
is also possible. also check the mode ECP/EPP/Basic, extended/bidirectional etc.

The other obious thing to check that the correct printer is in use. Even if you
have re-installed a printer driver, it is not 100% sure that, that's what selected
in the properties of the printer object.

Third (and possibly most likely), this could be a hardware problem. The printer
cable, or the connector or socket at one or other end could be damaged. The
member hasn't recently changed the printer cable has he/she ? Some of the
cheaper cables don't have enough wires connected through for some makes of
printer. HP is particularly "picky". (it may work under Windows 95 but not
NT or OS/2).

Oh and another thought - stear clear of installing printer "monitoring" tools
unless you know exactly what you are doing. These have a nasty habit of messing
things up !

Are we talking Telstra ADSL or Telstra Cable ??

I ended up not moving to Newington but moved into a house with
Foxtel, hence I am using Cable Internet - is this what you need
details on ? If you're going the ADSL route I'm sure Daryl or
Graham will be able to help you.

If it is Cable, I'll rewrite me previous notes into one (things turned
out pretty simple at the end) and send you it.

Ed,
Telstra Cable *NOT* ADSL. I have Foxtel here too. I took
that advantage from one of your previous mailings.

  Thanks,

Booting while the printer is on makes the printer click and whir, and sounds sort of

Stock standard warp 4 driver - and tried the current omni driver - same result. The
printer is a Canon BJ200ex.

BIOS is set to 378/irq7 and normal mode although rmview doesn't show anything using irq7
(which is normal, I understand). It is Warp 4.

Affirm to that.

Same cable that was working up to Sunday night.

However, I might take my printer, cable and an LPT card and try that, in case there is
something funny with Allan's hardware.

Thanks for yours and Ian's suggestions..
