Ed,

SMC EPII PCI in echidna
Intel 8/16 ISA in bunyip
sure: SCSI CDROM

bunyip didn't have a CDROM, so, an IDE CDROM was plugged in for the duration of install
bunyip installed fine from same set of floppies
I've also tested installed from same set another IDE and two SCSI disks, no probs
IDE system had an Intel EtherExpress ISA, SCSI was SMC EPII PCI

both machines have been in production since they were brand new;
needless to say, both were installed originally

aren't you lucky ! I'm wishing already they never sent me the CP !

both systems have AHA2040, SCSI HD, SCSI CDROM
I've also test installed with same floppy set on 2 partitions on my own w/s, 2940UWP

If you're using the java client to access Telstra's Bigpond Cable, I've
found the linux port of bpalogin for OS/2

http://bpalogin.sourceforge dot net/download.html

Haven't tried it yet, but for those interested you may want to check it out.

My line of thought is that at the end of disk 3, the
install procedure switches to the CDRom drive to
get diskette 4 and so on. So I suspect that if you
had put the IDE CDRom on echinda it would have
installed OK. This would point to a change in the
SCSI drivers with Warp CP over the previous install.

It's quite rare to find a SCSI CD-Rom in a server
now a days. I know in a lot of the IBM servers,
they have IDE as well as SCSI and the only thing
on the IDE is the CDRom. Isuspect the install
procedure on CP wasn't fully tested with a SCSI
CD-Rom drive.

If you want to experiment, you might like to put the
(working) scsi drivers onto copies of the installation
diskettes and try the first part of the install again
on enchinda. I suspect it'll work.

Cheers/2

Ed.

I'm actually using a linux port from Paul Smedley in Adelaide.
psmedle1atbigpond dot net dot au

Works fine but I can't really notice any difference to the Java one.

Thanks anyway

Ed.

One and the same :-)
The one at Sourceforge is Paul's port.

Yeah,
The guy who currently maintains bpalogin kindly offered to host the OS/2 port at the
central website for bpalogin :) Saves me having to host it anywhere :)

Regards,

Paul.

Subject: [os2genau] New build of Sane for OS/2 v1.0.5

[Sane = Scanner Access Now Easy - a package from Linux to access Scanners - best
used with a frontend such as Tame - http://www.os2world dot com/goran/tame.htm]

Another new build of v1.0.5 - resynchronised my source tree as of 20:00 16th June
South Australian time :)

I had to backlevel dc25.c as I got an error on linking otherwise.

One quirk with this build, is that running scanimage.exe with no parameters displays no
output for about 10-15 seconds before coming up with the umax_pp warnings. I may
just disable the umax_pp backend on the next build to to these warnings/errors.

Umax backend has been updated to support threading on OS/2 and should now work.

HP and Snapscan and a few of the lesser used backends (I don't have my list handy)
still won't work either.

Latest build can be downloaded from
ftp://psmedley.dyndns dot org:21029/incoming/sane-1.0.5-latest.zip

or from my new, superduper web page (big grin) at
http://users.bigpond dot net dot au/psmedley/sane/

For instructions on using Sane for OS/2 please read the information at the webpages
I've pointed out on my Sane webpage.

Regards,

Paul Smedley.

I've installed at least 3 times on my own systems with SCSI CD ROM
I think my CD ROM would be 'newer' and I have 2940UWP
(hmm, forgot to check if it'll boot..)

yes, perhaps almost as rare as finding a server running OS/2 ?

I suspect it's the cost factor.

you mean the SCSI files from echidna itself ?
that I can try, hooking up IDE CD ROM is a little too hard;
what do I need, just the Adaptec AHA* ?
(on bunyip, the case was off, so, 'twas easy )
