Thanks Kris, I have had a number of replies on this line.

It is an IBM GRADD driver problem (which I should have remembered!) to do with the system default setting for folder background colour.

I don't know if SDD should know about it or not since it's not their GRADD driver that's the problem but IBMs.

Good for you Gavin !

If you need (or wish) to make the Watp 4 image look more Windows 98
like,
there are plenty of add-ons that work very well. Some are freeware, some
shareware.

As to the deal between the VIC gov and M$, I believe a similar deal
exists
between the SA gov and M$. IMO this all stinks of restricted practices
and
discrimination and to the detrement of the students education.

There's also some deal between the NSW Education Department and M$
allowing discounted M$ certification for students. Not a bad thing in
principal
but when it blocks out competing compnies and products this should also
be
illegal.

I work in the education field and even though I'm not the IT coordinator or technician, I am frequently asked to fix problems (often by the IT coordinator herself). The latest fix was for a PS/2 mouse port/touch pad WIN98 driver on an Acer laptop that was acting sporadically. I
thought "Bugger this, I'll install Warp and stop this from happening
again," with success, only to be told by one of the teaching staff to
remove it and put WIN98 back on as Warp, and I quote, "Did not look the
same as the other laptops."

Perhaps the "a little less than polite" reply could have been, no it
looks better, works
better and is more reliable - so whay not change all the laptops.

IBM Products are also available to schools at "educational prices",
which are
equivalent to "loss leaders" in a supermarket. And hey, you can buy old
copies
of the APC edition at $7.50 I think, that came will a full, legal copy
of OS/2 Warp 4
so Warp is actually CHEAPER that M$es deal !

Ed,
What makes you think it's missing a DLL? myplay.log states "File not found: '(null)'"
after running myplay.exe. Looks like the you have to run 'myplay.exe filename.divx' to
run it - ie not a PM application.

I'll see if I can find a smallish divx file and test and get back to you.

Paul.

Ed,
further to my original email, you need to either add the dll directory to your libpath, or
copy the two dll files contained in that directory the the same directory as myplay.exe.
With this done, I was able to play one of the divx's contained at
http://www.mydivx dot com/movies/ - without sound of course but I believe that's a limitation
of the current code.

Paul.

I get the message
SYS1804: The system cannot find the file ODINCRTD.

ODINCRT.DLL exists in \ODIN\System32 but no odincrtd.dll that I can see
(perhaps
the odincrtd.dll comes with the debug build of Odin ?). I'm presuming
this program
needs ODIN support by the fact it's looking for this DLL. From the
screenshot on
the website, this does look like a PM program.

Stranger and stranger .... I copied the three DLLs supplied into os2\dll
(so in the path)
and still get the same error.

Yes the lack of sound is a known limitation.

Did you download the RAR package and UNRAR it ? I think there was a zip
file within
the RAR package which had duplicates of files already expanded from the
RAR package
which ones did you keep ??

I downloaded the rar file, expanded it, unpacked the zip file into the same directory,
copied the dll files from the dll directory into the same directory as myplay.exe, then ran
myplay.exe filename.avi adn it came straight up.

System in Warp 4 + FP15, latest odin debug build installed.

I do have odincrtd.dll in my odin directory - looks like it does need a debug build of
odin installed. Try grabbing that and see if it helps.

I just did the same (downloaded unrared and unzipped all into the same

but I got the same error again, however I do have the non-debug version
of ODIN.

Could you email me direct the missing DLL Please ??

Subject: Re: [os2genau] DVX / 2 Player

Working now - Thanks Paul.

For others here's the details of how to set up this interesting
program:

Download it from ftp://weird.da.ru/UpLoad/myplay-20010423.rar

De-compress it - you'll need unrar and unzip as there's a zip file
in the rar file.

Copy the files from the dll subdirectory to the current directory.

Obtain ODINCRTD.dll (included in Odin debug but not release builds)
put it also into the same directory.

Download a DiVX from the web - a good sample file is located at:
http://www.mydivx dot com/movies/

Unzip it into the very same directory.

To run the divx player the command line is simply

myplayer divxfilename

Note the divxfile usually seems to have an AVI extention but this
doesn't mean it can be played by the normal AVI MMPM2 player !

There is no sound at the moment with this player (it is an alpha
version after all), but the developers are working on it.

If you want to create a program object, put the text
[Please enter DiVX file name to be played]
(with the square brackets) in the parameters field,
this will then prompt you to enter the required filename
before the program starts.

Apparently there are several DiVX formats out there -
this player seems to play the "classic" format. I haven't
tried any others yet, but I believe other codecs may be
needed.

Note that odincrtd.dll is needed by this program. I do not
know if the program actually needs ODIN installed as well
(I have ODIN installed on my systems as a matter of course).

Good Luck !

Ed Durrant.
