Hi Gavin,

Don't know about Sysinfo, usually install NetFinity, but perhaps Ian
Manners could suggest a smaller tool for checking memory
available/usage.

Stocky, are you using one of these video cards?
Email me back & I'll post it to the list if you can comment.

I'm using an ISA SupraExpress, see if you can get a PCI modem, but it
*must* use the Lucent Venus chipset.
It is a hardware modem, with high i/o IRQ address but there is a com
driver available for OS/2.

Internal modems are nice & neat but if they latch-up, (electrical noise
on the PSTN line, for example), you have to cold boot your computer.

USB would be good, no plug-pack, just the USB lead.

If it latches-up just have to unplug the USB lead!

Had anyone got a USB modem to work under OS/2?

Have you checked your DOS properties, and enabled EMX or
EMS memory for the DOS session ?

This one has worked well for me in the past.

http://www.os2site dot com/sw/util/memory/memwatch.zip

I use Sysinfo from the russian author, its a bit like Nortons
Windows System Information.

Acer, any major brand names seem to work ok
Nothing beats a good external modem.

I didnt even know it was password protected, and I overwrote
the older one that wasnt.

I'd ask Jim, I have just sent an email off to Kim asking him
what the password is, as well as who I'm allowed to give it to.

Anyone in here useing Telstra Bigpond Cable with OS/2? Mine gets installed on
Tuesday 17th April, and from what I've seen on Google, the people who have used it
on OS/2 have used the Java client that is available to login. I have ported the Unix
program bpalogin to OS/2, and am looking for people to test it. Program compiles fine
and appears to work, but would be nice for some people to test it if they can before I
make it available. I'll obviously be testing it on Tuesday afternoon after Telstra install
my cable!!

Yes I did. I boosted EMS and XMS to 16Mb.

No problems Paul - I'm connected via BigPond Cable using the Java login

If you want to email it direct I'm happy to test it for you.

Thanks for the intro Leigh !
It didn't :)

Up'til now I have been using Warp 4 fp12 and Y2k fixes for tcpip and mpts.
Which is pretty far behind in fp's by now, but it has been working.

Hardware: ASUS P5AB now with bios revision 1010(current, thanks to Brian
at hardware
                                                                                        meeting
)
                    64mb SDRAM
                    8 gig Seagate hdd
                    P200 Intel mmx
                    Matrox G200 AGP
                    Crystal Tidalwave 128 sound card
8x Mitsumi IDE CD, 1x 1.44mb floppy drive.
Software: Warp 4 ddfp1...can't remember, maybe not.

Problem 1:

without warning tcpip related software, email, newsreader, browser could
not find their relarive services on my isp (chariot dot net), but Injoy made
usual strong connection. I could ping some sites mostly USA and I could
grab news from Stardock & ECS(mensys). Reinstalled using current IDE fix,
system is a bit flakey and the internet problem persists until fp12 is
reapplied, which also had trouble.

Problem 2:

Brian - (OS2UGSA Tech/miracle worker) tried updating fp to DDFP2 & FP15.
Fixtool 1.43 crashed, sys3175 I think. Re-install with fp15 level code,
install dropped out.

The old code was mostly stable for nearly 2 years, so I reinstalled using
install disks with the IDE fix from Oct '98. The install has worked ok, it
appears stable. Am at base Warp 4 and internet services appear ok, still
have to re-install Netscape though.

The Question:

Should I try to apply fp12 or fp15 ?
The money, or the gun !?!

Sorry for the big message, Ian.

Thanks
Glenn Thompson.

Sounds like a InJoy setting problem.

You could try without the fixtool, I have instructions on my
upgrade page at http://www.os2site dot com/sw/upgrades/ if
its not there, look in the upgrade directories, goto the
fixpack15 (or 12) directory, and read the install file.

Same proceedure also applies to DDFP2.

I guess I can rule out the new 80 lead IDE cables causing
nightmares, speaks me from first hand experience :-)

Go for FP15, if that doesnt work, you can always restore
the archive.

Live dangerously, take the gun, I'll go hide.

As if I can talk :-)
