For QIC tapes, yeah, blocking factor is irrelevant. Unlike traditional
Unix tapes, which are streams of variable-length records and tape
marks, QIC tapes are streams of 512-byte blocks and tape marks. (The
quintessential Unix tape is probably an 800bpi nine-track half-inch
tape, which approximately doesn't exist these days.)
In passing, on the "whom to reply to" thread, this message came in with
a header

I noticed this when I tried to reply and saw both addresses in the To:;
upon checking, I found that Reply-To:.
