As I have a VS3100-76 running on the desk here, I thought I'd
chip in.

The external connector is an ordinary external connector,
although it may be of the opposite gender to that which
you were expecting.

The internal cable carries *two* SCSI buses and so is
not just an ordinary SCSI cable. The internal terminator
only terminates the internal SCSI (SCSI-A, IIRC). You
need a separate external terminator for the external bus.
