Nah... original discussions about WWW/HTTP were in the '89/90 timeframe 
(I'd have to check the exact dates), and gopher existed then, and 
indeed, if gopher development had changed course just a little, it 
might have killed the WWW before it even got started (assuming WWW 
means HTTP+HTML).

The first RFC for HTTP didn't appear until it'd been around for about 6 
years...
