And I'll have to agree with Gordon.  I've used mecnoder to transcode 
several things from MJPEG (what my video capture card spits out) to 
MPEG4/DivX.  It usually works flawlessly.  The only bear is getting it 
set up the first time (and figuring out the command line).  But once 
you've got "a Clue", it works great.

Of course, by now we've drifted WAY off topic...
