Tin the tracks?  Why bother?

Again, why?  I suppose you could use some osrt of spray-on solder
mask, but if you're doing home fabrication, presumably the track
spacing is large enough that you don't need solder mask anyway.  

Solder mask isn't for protecting the copper, it's for preventing
solder bridges in fine pitch layouts (especially when wave soldering
is used).
