is the leader still attached to the plastic spool near the back of the 
drive? You can unhook the clear plastic cover over the spool from its many 
catches / latches and carefully remove it, and turn the spool until you can 
see the end of the leader. Does it have a hook attached to it, in the form 
of a plastic cap with a hole in it? If all you have at the end of it is a 
ragged end, you need a new leader.
