I've started using iTerm from http://iterm.sourceforge.net
It allows you to set up "bookmarks" which automagically open
a new window and runs a command of your choice. It also has
key-mapping capability. While I haven't to played with this
extensively, the default settings for the "vt100" selection
does the keypad stuff (lse/eve, edt, etc.) correctly.
