More seriously, I will do that, but at the moment I need to
see if it's worth the effort. It's also a single-sided drive
and I need another double-sided; but I won't let it go to waste
or ruin.

I think it's likely to be a plain bearing, probably an oilite
type (sintered bronze). It probably ran dry, and was left
running.
