123 SCREEN 1

From the main Lotus 123 Menu select the Translate option

123 SCREEN 2

Select DIF to WKS

123 SCREEN 3

Tell 123 where to look for your input file. This particular version of 123
does not ask for directory information. If you have the same version you will
have to set the source disk drive to the required directory with the DOS CD
command before using 123 .

123 SCREEN 4

123 Lists all the .DIF files on the source disk. Select PAYLOTUS.DIF

123 SCREEN 5

Tell 123 where to write its output file. Again, with this version of 123,
if directories are involved they must be set with the DOS CD command before
running the translate utility.

123 SCREEN 6

Tell 123 how you want the translation done. We find that RowWise gives a
nicer looking worksheet that closely resembles our printed Payroll Register.

123 SCREEN 7

Confirm that you wish to do the translation

123 SCREEN 8

.... and 123 does the job.

123 SCREEN 9

We are finished with the Translate Utility so select Quit.

123 SCREEN 10

Confirm you are done ....

123 SCREEN 11

Run 123 and Retrieve the worksheet file just created by the 123 Translate
Utility

123 SCREEN 12

... and 123 displays the worksheet. It does not look quite right yet as
the width and format settings have not been made. Select Worksheet, Global,
so that the changes will apply to the entire worksheet. Change the Column
Width to 15, and Format to Fixed - 2 Decimals. You may wish to format
individual cells containing Hours and UIC PP Except. to Fixed - 4 Decimals

123 SCREEN 13

Now when Lotus displays the worksheet it looks far more legible.

We will page down through the worksheet to show you what is on it.

123 SCREEN 14

... Another Page

123 SCREEN 15

.... and another

123 SCREEN 16

... almost done

123 SCREEN 17

.... and the end. This is now a regular 123 worksheet just the same as if you
had keyed it in. All 123 functions are now available for you to use with it.
Re Save it when you are finished to save the width and format settings so you
will not need to redo them next time you use it.
