SG V0.0 by Chee-Kai Chin, cheekai@wrl.pa.dec.com This is a simple little graphics game called SG. It mimics netrek but does not need a server to connect to play. As it is still in version 0.0, there are little game mechanics built in although the bulk of the graphics work is already there. To play the game, simply run the program within X and start shooting. There are 100 enemy ships shaped in Romulan destroyers (DD) and cruisers (CA) flying all over the gigantic galaxy. Your task is to eliminate them all within the shortest time. Enemy ships are destroyed if they are hit by your photons, plasmas, or phaser. To fire photons, point your mouse in the direction intended and press the 1st (left-most) mouse button. The plasma direction is limited to only the direction in which your ship is pointing at. To change the direction of your ship, point the mouse at the direction intended and press the 3rd (right-most) mouse button. Then, pressing 'f' will fire a plasma in that direction. If you make a 180 degree turn and press the 'f' key while turning, the plasma will fire off in the direction of the ship at the point the 'f' key is pressed. Finally, to fire a phaser, point your mouse within the enemy's ship body and press the 2nd (middle) mouse button. Your on-board computer will lock on to the enemy's ship and phaser it to death. A successful lock will cause the phaser to beam in the color of the enemy, while an unsuccessful one will be white. To manouver, use the 3rd mouse button to change direction as above, and press (simultaneously if you wish) the numeric keys to initiate warp engine -- the higher the number, the faster your ship goes. Easy? Well, there are around 400 stars about 25% of which are red dwarfs. Red dwarfs are dieing elements of the galaxies. They begin intensive thermonuclear reactions within their core and gradually expand until the point at which they are too hot to contain themselves and explode, causing long-lasting debris to be thrown all over the space. Avoid these fragments, as well as any debris from the enemy ships you destroyed, and you will be safe. Also, although enemy ships won't collide with one another, they DO collide with you and will explode when hit by the star explosion fragments. So take note of that when dancing with the enemy ships. This is not much of a game documentation, but hopefully enough for this simple version of the game. Enjoy! Chee-Kai Chin
