    I think your new split of the lists would be a huge improvement.

    I also think you, as moderator, need to adopt a new rule:

    "Praise in public, criticise in private."

    Private criticism would also include jumping on anyone who tries to 
usurp your role as moderator (i.e. Sellam).

    Raises the whole tone of the list -- it becomes a pleasant place to 
visit for a few minutes a day.  After everyone gets trained, the occasional 
troll or newby is ignored, which usually pisses them off so much they go 
away and bother someone else.
