"His-or-her-as-appropriate" memory.

English lacks a gender-neutral set of third-person singular
pronouns[%].  Various attempts to make up for this lack have been made;
"hir" is the "his-or-her" possessive from the set I prefer.

In case anyone cares, the rest of the set is

M: he  him his his  himself
F: she her her hers herself
N: sie hir hir hirs hirself

[%] I have seen it claimed that the masculine set (he, him, his, etc)
    is the gender-neutral set.  While there is some historical and
    linguistic basis for such a claim, in my opinion it is false when
    applied to English as it is used today.
