I don't know anything about the imlac, but I'm a fan of using SDL for
display & input as it makes porting between win32 and X very simple.  I
believe this is also true for the Macintosh.

just a suggestion...

I used it on my MIT lisp machine emulator and it worked great for a
simple b&w frame buffer.
