I've somtimes wondered about building a SCSI layer that could handle
having the data pins rewired - handling the bit-swapping necessary for
data and dealing with the ID permuting implied. This is one of the
cases where it could be useful. (Another would be connecting two hosts
to the same bus and allowing each to think it had ID 7. I'm not sure
how truly useful this would be, though, since any adapter that can't
use another ID is unlikely to be able to support target mode. Perhaps
it could nevertheless be useful as a kind of poor-man's dual porting.)
