   I agree with Eric, and have a real example relative to this list.

   There have been a couple of storage adapters on eBay last year that I 
might have bid on - one that I'd have bid high for sure - except that Al 
Kossow was already bidding.

   That's not altruistic, or even "for the good of the group", either. 
I figure that in the long run, I myself will get more benefit from X 
piece of hardware if Al is running it.
