Seriously, my Vaio VX89 laptop, running freeBSD, does the same
thing.  Sounds like an over-eager recalibrate. Did the same thing
on SuSE linux. I can't tell you if there's any pattern to mine,
it's not that common. The drive is now 3 yrs old with no problems
so far.
