'Using a sledgehammer to crack a nut' and similar statements...

It's a common English phrase for an over-complicated solution to what 
should be a simple problem. I don't know how many million transistors are 
in that PC + video digitiser + graphics card + ... but I think you could 
make a PAL or NTSC colour monitor in under 100 transistors without even 
trying.. Several million transistors is over-complicated.
