Of course, that's a rather tiny engine.  My Honda Insight hybrid car
has a gasoline engine about that size (3 cylinder 1 liter).  It starts
in a small fraction of a second.  The magic is a combination of good
fuel mixture controls, and the fact that the starter motor is a
monster good for about 10 kW...
