RTE-6/VM KERMIT (Version 1.0) KERMIT is written for the HP1000 family of mini-computers running the RTE-6/VM operating system by John Lee of RCA Laboratories. It implementation permits the execution of KERMIT in REMOTE HOST (dial-in) mode only; LOCAL (dial-out) mode capability is not available at this time. When running in REMOTE HOST KERMIT mode, KERMIT will use the current login line for file transfer. It is of extreme importance that this login terminal port have ENQ/ACK disa- ble and XON/XOFF enable. NOTE: When sending a file to the HP1000 system, be sure the incoming filenames does not match any file already existed in the current working cartridge; otherwise the existed file will be deleted and replaced by the incoming one. Also, the filename of the incoming file may change slightly in order to conform to the filename convention governed under the HP1000 RTE-6/VM system. One method of avoiding this problem is to invoke the KERMIT program from a clean working/private cartridge. Permission is granted to any individual or institution to copy or use this program, except for explicitly commerical purpose. John Lee RCA Laboratories (609) 734-3157 One can invoke KERMIT by typing : KERMIT Summary of KERMIT RTE-6/VM commands are as follows: EXIT - Terminates this KERMIT RTE-6/VM program. HELP - Types out the content of this HELP file. QUIT - Terminates this KERMIT RTE-6/VM program. RECEIVE - Places this KERMIT RTE-6/VM program into - a state ready for receiving one or more file(s). SEND FILENAME - Sends the content of the file specified - in filename. SEND @FILENAME - Sends the content of all the files specified - in filename; filename here is treated as a - directory of files to be sent. SET DELAY N - Where N is a decimal ranging from 0 to 30. - Instructs this KERMIT RTE-6/VM program how - many seconds to wait before sending out the - first packet. These time delays allows the - user time to get back to his/her LOCAL KERMIT - program and initiate the RECEIVE command. - Defaulted time delay is 10 seconds. SET MYQUOTE N - Where N is a decimal ranging from 33 to 126. - Instructs THIS KERMIT program the character - to be used in QUOTING control characters. - Defaulted QUOTE character used is '#'. SET PACKET N - Where N is a decimal ranging from 31 to 94. - It specifiesd the maximum packet size used - for file transfer. Defaulted packet size - is 80. SET SOH N - Where N is a decimal ranging from 1 t 31. - This is the START OF HEADING found in every - KERMIT packet. Both KERMIT must agree to - this value. It need not be changed for most - types of file transfer. Defaulted SOH used is - CNTR-A (1). STATUS - Displays the status of user selectable parameters. Procedure on installing RTE-6/VM KERMIT onto HP1000 system: 1) Breakup the big file into small one based on the filename given found at the beginning of each file block. 2) Compile the program (one file) by typing "FNT7X,&kermi,,-" 3) Link the program by typing "LINK,%KERMI"
