This is possible in one of three ways - manual setting, precise battery-backup clock cards, or via the network. The first method is impractical in large networks and tiring in small networks. The second method works reasonably, but is rather expensive. The third method is least expensive and simplest, but no such service is provided in the DECnet software. These tasks operate as a sender and receiver pair. When TIMSND is installed on the network "master" node, any node can run a local copy of TIMREC against their (already started) network to get the time from the network master and set their time to the standard. This coordinates network times to within a few seconds, depending on link delay in transmission of the time.
