The REW command. 18-MAY-81 --- --- -------- The REW command is used to rewind a magnetic tape during a terminal session or batch job. Its format is: REW ddnn: or REW ddnn:/OF where ddnn: is the device specification of the magtape you wish to rewind. REW supports tape drives of types MM and MT. The first form of the command causes the tape to be rewound to beginning-of-tape (BOT). The drive will remain online. The second form of the command turns the drive offline prior to the rewind operation. In this case the drive will have to be turned back online manually before any further operations will be allowed by the system. The /OF switch may be specified as /OFF, /OFFLINE etc as desired. If another task is using the drive at the time, REW will wait until the task detaches it before proceeding with the rewind operation. You can only use REW for a tape that is allocated to your terminal. REW can produce several error messages; these are generally self-explanatory and are not documented here.
