@WP is a menu driven word processing system designed to be used by persons who are not computer oriented to enter, maintain, and print textual documents, using the EDT V2.0 editor, PIP, and the unsupported products RUNOFF and SRD. It makes the commands necessary to operate these programs invisible to the end user, while presenting a pleasing, friendly appearance. The entire system is written in indirect command file processor "language". @WP will provide on line help (available by pressing the ESC key) whenever the user feels unsure about any entry, and in general has adopted the philosophy of "don't let them make any big mistakes" throughout. For example, at a critical point, such as file name entry, the user is given an "are you sure?" type prompt, and has a second chance to correct an erroneous character or even a complete foul up. The file naming convention in @WP provides in the file name (and files can be referenced through SRD by): 1) The 2 character document type 2) The 1 character document sequence number 3) The date in MMDDYY format of the material in the document 4) The file extension which is .RNO Also contained in the file header is the date on which the document was last edited. So, when @WP has been used for a while, old documents may be looked up by document type, date of material, or date last edited. The sequence number is provided so that different documents of the same type and date may still be unique. Only one version (;n) of any file will exist at any time. This is so that files may be edited many times and the user will not have to worry about purging the old versions. Experience has shown that un-purged word processing accounts accrue many many versions of the same document. Note that to make the operation of EDT V2.0 even easier, the startup command file EDTINI.EDT may be used to set up editor parameters, thus removing even more commands from the hands of the end users. Also note that @WP is written to run on either a VT100 or a VT52 type terminal.
