Warning NOS Hang (ASR)

Event Code

0501

Severity

Informational

Data

Seconds since last heartbeat

When ASR is enabled, the ASR software installed on the server periodically notifies the HP Remote Assistant that the system is running correctly (heartbeat). If the server crashes or hangs, the heartbeat will cease. The Warning NOS Hang alarm is generated if the heartbeat stops for longer than the configured timeout and HP Remote Assistant is NOT configured to restart on NOS hang. Note that the alarm will not show up until the server is reset and comes back on line, and the HP Remote Assistant SNMP agent is loaded.

If the NOS hangs repeatedly, it may indicate a problem with server memory (parity errors), an I/O card, or a software module. For more detailed information on the cause of the hang, use HP Remote Assistant's Console Redirection feature to view the contents of the server's screen before rebooting. Also, check the Remote Assistant event log and the Event Log for any critical server events leading up to the hang.

TAP No Connect

Event Code

0901, 20202

Severity

Informational

Data

N/A

The TAP No Connect alarm is generated when the server's modem fails to connect to a specified TAP (Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol) paging service terminal when using the paging feature of the server's HP Remote Assistant Card, TopTools Remote Control Card, or Integrated RA. The page will be attempted twice before being discarded.

This event occurs when one of the following conditions is detected:

  1. The terminal is busy and thus was unable to connect.
  2. Your modem is not plugged into the phone line.
  3. The terminal may be inactive. Paging companies incur occasional down-time as they make upgrades and repairs to their terminals.
  4. You may have selected the wrong number for your Terminal Access Number. This number should not be the same as your pager number. After dialing you should hear standard handshaking protocols begin upon connection.
  5. Your modem is having trouble connecting at 300 or 1200 baud. Baud rate difficulties can usually be rectified by entering the correct initialization string for your modem. Refer to the README.TXT file that came with your remote control solution for suggestions.

The TAP Parameter 2 Error alarm is generated when the server fails to get a login prompt from a specified TAP (Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol) paging service terminal when using the paging feature of the server's HP Remote Assistant Card, TopTools Remote Control Card, or Integrated RA. The page will be attempted twice before being discarded.

This event occurs when the Terminal Logon is not accepted. This indicates that:

  1. The terminal has required more information than the server's HP Remote Assistant Card, TopTools Remote Control Card, or Integrated RA is configured to send.
  2. The paging service provider is not completely adhering to the alphanumeric paging protocols. If this appears to be the case, call HP Technical Support.
  3. It is also possible that you are not dialing the correct modem access number. Check to see if the number you are dialing responds with typical modem handshaking protocols. If not, call your pager service provider and double-check to be sure you are dialing the correct modem access number (Terminal Number).

TAP Parameter 3 Error

Event Code

0904, 20205

Severity

Informational

Data

N/A

The TAP Parameter 3 Error alarm is generated when the server's pager message is rejected by a specified TAP (Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol) paging service terminal when using the paging feature of the server's HP Remote Assistant Card, TopTools Remote Control Card, or Integrated RA. The page will be attempted twice before being discarded.

This event occurs when a message is not accepted by the terminal.

  1. Your message exceeds the length (number of characters per message) of the service provider's limits. Make sure that your service provider supports a message length of 80 characters.
  2. Your Pager ID number is invalid. If you use multiple service providers, make sure you have selected the correct service provider for the Pager ID or PIN number. See your HP Remote Assistant Card, TopTools Remote Control Card, or Integrated RA manual.
  3. Your service is currently not accepting messages. Try to send your message later.
  4. Call your service provider and ask them to send you a test message. This can help determine if the problem lies with your service provider, or if you are using an invalid Pager ID number.
